City Government of Kidapawan launches “Magpuyo sa Balay, Mananom og Gulay 2.0”
KIDAPAWAN CITY (March 10, 2021) – The City Government of Kidapawan through the Office of the City Agriculturist is launching the “Magpuyo sa Balay, Mananom og Gulay 2.0”, a contest that aims to encourage backyard gardening among the residents of the 40 barangays of the city amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
City Agriculturist Marissa T. Aton was tasked by City Mayor Joseph Evangelista to spearhead the month-long contest (March 10 – April 10, 2021) that will also support and promote food sufficiency in the city by planting variety of vegetables.
Mayor Evangelista at the start of Covid-19 pandemic last year formulated proactive measures to address the problems that will possibly be confronted by the city such as less mobility and less production due to lockdowns and other concerns that affects food production.
“We are launching anew the contest amid the Covid-19 pandemic in order to increase food production and food sufficiency and for families to be productive even at home”, Mayor Evangelista said while highlighting the contest as part of the City Government’s various initiatives to help the agriculture sector
Last April 2020, the City Government of Kidapawan launched the same contest and received huge response from ordinary households to the level of vegetable and fruit growers in the many barangays of the city.
This year, the City Agriculturist Office again hopes to obtain a wide response from the people who alongside the City Government are exerting efforts in the campaign against Covid-19 pandemic and reduce its ill-effects in the community.
“We don’t want to let go of any opportunity especially now that the Covid-19 pandemic is still very much around and this time we will again urge the residents to be with us in this advocacy as a way to prevent food insufficiency and hunger”, said Aton as she appealed for support from every stakeholder.
The contest is open to all residents of the Kidapawan City and their entries (gardens) must be also located in the city. Participants are advised to send photos of their gardens with details such as name, address, and contact number. The participant gardener should also send a selfie with his garden as background.
A daily winner will be announced (Monday to Friday) and he or she cannot win twice in a week in order to give chance to other contestants. A weekly winner will be selected from all daily winners.
At the final or fourth week all daily winners should submit a latest picture of his or her garden showing the development in the entry garden and latest selfie having the garden as background again. Judging of the Champion of “Magpuyo sa Balay, Mananom ug Gulay 2.0” will be done by a team led by City Agriculturist Aton through personal visitation ang ocular of the entry. (CIO_AJPME/JSCJ)
