City Gov’t calls for calm amid nCOv scare

KIDAPAWAN CITY – “LIVE CLEAN AND HEALTHY and cooperate with authorities.”

This according to City Mayor Joseph Evangelista in his call to the public after the Department of Health confirmed the entry of the Novel Corona Virus – Acute Respiratory Disease in the country.

The public is advised to observe proper hygiene and sanitation at all times to prevent the spread of nCOv, urged the Mayor.

The call to practice basic hygiene and sanitation was made after reports of face masks being sold out in city drugstores reached local health authorities.

Both the Offices of the City Health and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management called for a press conference on February 3, 2020 to answer queries on nCOv and calm the public against the possible spread of the disease.

Among the preventive measures being encouraged to be practiced by the public are: Strengthening one’s immune system by sleeping at least 8 hours every day, drinking enough water and staying hydrated most of the time, avoid smoking, eating healthy with the right amount of vegetables and fruits and cook meat and fish well, proper and frequent hand washing, wearing of face mask (if it is available), and regular doses of Ascorbic Acid and Multivitamins.

Patients having flu like symptoms such as fever, colds and cough are advised to go to the nearest health facility and seek medical treatment immediately.
The CHO have mobilized their Barangay Health Workers to visit communities and educate their constituents on nCOv.##(cio/lkoasay)

City receives 2 DAR funded Tulay ng Pangulo Projects

KIDAPAWAN CITY – TWO NEW Bridges funded under the Department of Agrarian Reform were turned over to the City Government on January 28, 2020.

The said infrastructure projects are under the DAR Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo or TPKP Program and were implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

City Mayor Joseph Evangelista personally received the two bridges from DAR 12 Assistant Regional Director Al Haj Roldan Ali in a simple turn-over ceremony and inauguration in Barangay Luvimin and Magsaysay where the two public infra projects are separately located.

Both bridges are identically 28.8 Linear meters long that will help connect neighboring barangays and provide easier access for farmers to transport their goods to the market.

“We are very thankful to our President for giving these bridges to our people. Definitely these will help uplift the lives of our farmers who will be selling their produce and connect our neighboring barangays in the city”, Mayor Evangelista said after the bridges were turned over to the City Government.

Aside from providing easier access to farmers and motorists, the new bridges, particularly in Magsaysay, will help the public in availing better services.

The Mayor bared that the Magsaysay Tulay ng Pangulo Project is located near the site where the New City Hall will be constructed.

“The new bridge will not only benefit the public who will be served by the New City Hall. We are planning to request other government line agencies here in the city to relocate their offices near the New City Hall. This way, we will have a Government One Stop Shop that will provide the needed services for our people.”, Mayor Evangelista revealed.

The said Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo are just two of the completed public infrastructures out of the five projects to be constructed in the city.##(cio/lkoasay)

PRESS RELEASE

City Gov’t gives potable water system to Sitio Nazareth residents

KIDAPAWAN CITY – The City Government has turned-over today a potable water system project in Sitio Nazareth, Amas to the residents of Purok Ipil-ipil that is hoped to end their water scarcity, El Nino vulnerabilty and almost endless daily routine of getting unsafe water from open dug wells along a small creek of almost a hundred meters descend. Hon. Aying Pagal and the members of the Sangguniang Barangay of Amas came to share with the new milestone for the residents in the ribbon-cutting.

Purok President Ernesto Alunsagay said that they never thought this would materialize amidst disaster situations that happened in Kidapawan last year, 2019. For more than 10 years of fetching water from a well, they have the long-awaited commodity, finally. He said, their deep well was damaged in 2007 and it was not repaired until Mayor Joseph A. Evangelista has decided to put a water system to answer the peoples’ suffering especially during dry season. Mayor Evangelista put P1.3M from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund of CY 2019 to get the project done.

The residents of Sitio Nazareth have sustained three (3) El Nino phenomenons in 2013, 2016 and 2019 without a reliable water source. The City DRRM Council have mobilized water rationing activities until El Nino was gone in 2016 and 2019 including this far flung community of Barangay Amas but it was just a relief. The place is considered as one of the drought-vulnerable communities in Kidapawan.

A teary-eyed woman has shared an experience back in the old days when they have not even a drop of water to quench their dry throat for thirst and fear while running to safety from a gun fight of an armed land conflict. Nothing was worse in their lives of that situation, she recalled… but they are thankful that the City Government has recognized their sufferings. At least we are back to normal life with a blessing in disguise, she said.

The water system is 180feet deep well, having an overhead tank, auto-filling and a chlorination pump.

The people’s next move, make the water system Level III.##(psalmer s.bernalte/cdrrmo/cio)

PRESS RELEASE
January 27, 2020
Mayor Evangelista encourages parents to enroll children early for school year 2020-2021
KIDAPAWAN CITY – City Mayor Joseph Evangelista is encouraging parents to have their children enrolled in the Early Registration of the Department of Education for school year 2020 – 2021.
It is a yearly campaign of the DepEd for incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 to enroll early for the school year.
“This is also one way of encouraging children displaced by the recent earthquakes to go back to school and restore normalcy in their lives.”, Mayor Evangelista said.
The Early Registration runs through February 1, 2020 to March 6, 2020.
City Schools Division Superintendent Omar Obas in an interview said, the Early Registration will help the City Government and the DepEd determine the number of children who live in far flung communities, those who have disabilities, illnesses and nutritional deficiencies, those who are no longer in school but interested in going back, undocumented and in conflict with the law.
Through the initiative of SP Education Committee Chair City Councilor Aljo Cris G. Dizon, upon the direction of the Mayor, the City Government has institutionalized the ‘zero collection policy’ by subsidizing the Php 400 Parent Teachers Association fees of all children enrolled in public elementary and secondary schools in the city.
For Kindergarten and Grade 1, a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) or National Statistics Authority (NSO) authenticated birth certificate must be submitted.
In case of its absence, secondary documents such as Local Civil Registrar (LCR) birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or barangay certification can be submitted.
Learners must also accomplish the Basic Education Enrolment Form during early registration.
The Early Registration is open in all public elementary and secondary schools in the 40 barangays of the city.##(cio/lkoasay)
